The European Commission announces the working program for 2008
The Commission made public a program of its activities for 2008, which focuses on the realizable opportunities of globalization for the social and economic development of the EU.“Making globalization work for the EU” – is a motto of the European Commission’s working program for the next year.
According to José Manuel Barroso (the President of the European Commission), to make this a workable program, the Commission needs to achieve concrete results which prove that the role of the Europe within globalization becomes more important than before. Barroso outlines the main priorities for the program, “rate of growth in economic development and increase in the level of employment, consistency and reliability of EU development, control of immigration, factoring the interests of EU citizens as a priority of EU policy and reinforcing Europe’s role as a world partner”.
According to Margot Wallström, Vice-president of the European Commission and Commissioner for Institutional Relations and Communication Strategy, “the working program combines initiatives, which will reinforce the competitiveness of the European economy with those aimed at protecting the interests of consumers and EU citizens.”
