New date for Ukraine’s entry into the WTO?

The First Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Mykola Azarov expects that by December Ukraine will complete its negotiations and become a member of the World Trade Organization in 2008.

“Ukraine concluded all bilateral negotiations related to its entry into the WTO – having signed an Agreement with Vietnam and resolved all issues with Kirghizia. Moreover, today our government has made four more decisions that should completely resolve all issues from the regulatory point of view”, stated M. Azarov.

The First Vice-Prime Minister announced that at the beginning of December the Ukrainian delegation would travel to Geneva (Switzerland) to conduct all final negotiations. “This completes the long arduous work performed by various governments. I expect that Ukraine will become a member of the WTO beginning next year, start the process of negotiating with the European Union about a free trade zone and that this will provide a much needed stimulus for the development of our economy”, he emphasized.
