European Parliament supports simplification of visa regime with Ukraine

The Agreement on the simplification of visa regime includes a reduction in the number of documents required by the consulates for journalists, businessmen, long distance truckers and relatives of Ukrainian citizens who are living legally in the EU. For example, relatives will only have to present one single written document from the inviting party. No other confirming documents, invitations or supporting documents will be required. The relatives will be able to obtain multi-entry visas for a 5 year term without charge. Barbara Kudrycka, member of the European Parliament, reported on this issue and recommended that the committee being formed and charged with the responsibility for monitoring the compliance of these agreements should ensure that there are no artificial roadblocks preventing Ukrainians from traveling. She also advised that there is a need to assess the decisions taken by consulates of certain countries in allowing visas to be issued by private companies, particularly to determine whether this had increased the fees for the visas. Barbara Kudrycka suggested that the European Commission launch an information campaign to inform travelers about the changes.
