Bashky okuya in Kyrgyzstan

The Kyrgyz phrase “Bashky okuya” means “a major event.” Indeed, the major event took place, in a remote mountainous country, to where the Ukrainian governmental delegation led by First Vice-Premier Minister, Mykola Azarov and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arseniy Yatsenyuk headed last night. The major task of the delegation was the final settlement of issues related to the accession of Ukraine into the WTO, in particular the formation of a joint working group for the purpose of signing the bilateral accord on access to the markets for goods and services.
The events of Friday, November 9 were rapidly developing. At 12:30 p.m., President, Viktor Yushchenko chaired a meeting to discuss the principle issues related to Ukraine’s accession into the WTO, of which the only remaining and most important one was the completion of the bilateral negotiations with Kyrgyzstan. At 13:30 p.m., the First Deputy Head of the President’s Secretariat, Oleksandr Shlapak stated at a news briefing that by November 20 the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine would approve the remaining regulatory legislative laws needed to complete the negotiation process on the accession of Ukraine into the WTO. Later in the afternoon, a telephone conversation between President of Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko with President of Kyrgyzstan, Kurmanbek Bakiyev took place during which the extraordinary visit of the Ukrainian governmental delegation was arranged.
